About Us
The Family YMCA was started by volunteers in 1955 who recognized the need for a place where families could recreate together. It is an independent chapter of the YMCA of the USA but participates in Nation-wide membership that allows members to workout at any YMCA.
The Family YMCA is a charitable nonprofit whose mission is to build community strength by focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. One critical mission area is to ensure access to everyone to be in Y program through financial assistance. The organizational is led by a volunteer board of directors.
Our services include youth and family healthy living and active lifestyle programs (diabetes prevention, recreation and fitness); after school and summer camp family support; and teen centers in Los Alamos and Española. The mission of our teen centers is to strengthen the efficacy of community youth through tutoring and skill building, educational support, and positive youth development programs.
