Esperanza Shelter is seeking a compassionate Bilingual Therapist to provide trauma-informed therapeutic services for survivors of domestic violence. As our Bilingual Therapist, you'll deliver essential therapeutic support to children and adults in both shelter and non-residential programs who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Compensation: $31 per hour

Status: Full-time (40 hours/week), Non-exempt

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Job Summary

The Bilingual Therapist is responsible for counseling adults, children, and adolescents who have experienced domestic abuse. Counseling for this role will take place in various locations at our agency, including the residential shelter and Community Support Center. This role requires a trauma-informed approach combined with patience, centeredness, flexibility, and the skills to do crisis interventions, brief counseling, and longer-term individual and group therapeutic interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides individual counseling from a trauma-informed perspective
  • Facilitates counseling and support groups
  • Participates in weekly clinical supervision
  • Maintains up-to-date case documentation
  • Provides internal and community referrals
  • Reports on service utilization while maintaining confidentiality

Essential Job Functions

  • Conducts clinical intakes
  • Provides counseling to children who have experienced domestic abuse using trauma-informed expressive arts and child-centered play methods. Supervision and training will be provided as needed.
  • Maintains expressive arts and playrooms at rooms at shelter and the Support Center, keeping supplies organized and up-to-date and making suggestions for improvement.
  • Able to facilitate a support group if needed
  • Uses electronic databases to ensure case documentation is up-to-date and reflective of services provided.
  • Participates in weekly staff meetings to consult on cases and provide recommendations regarding appropriate intervention/prevention methods.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

  • Master’s degree in counseling or clinical social work
  • Possess current licensure in good standing as either; LMHC, LPCC, LMSW, LCSW
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English with the ability to read, write, interpret, and translate.
  • Minimum of one years’ experience working as a child counselor (preferred but not mandatory).

  • Communicate effectively in stressful situations.
  • Coach parents in methods of non-violent discipline and positive parenting skills.
  • Domestic abuse and advocacy experience and education preferred.
